Red Light, Green Light!

 Learning to read is hard work. To make it easier, we use the colors of the Stop Light.
Red=Sight words--words you can't sound out
Yellow=Words you sound out
Green=Words you know

The mini-reading books brought home are color-coded with these Stop Light rules in mind. When we reach a yellow word, we pretend we are going down a slide slowly and sound out each letter. Then we sound it out again, going down the slide fast.

In addition, we play games with our sight words from the mini-books. Currently we play 'I Spy,' but soon we will be adding 'Read it, Lace it, Write it.'

More to come on Sight Words: book suggestions to help your child learn sight words at home and websites with Sight Words games!

And who doesn't love the game Red Light, Green Light? The day we learned the Stop Light reading rules, we learned how to play Red Light, Green Light. They choose to play this game nearly every day now during outside play. :)
